Meet Your Instructor: Mr. Ronald Trotter

Picture of Ronald TrotterRON TROTTER, your instructor for "Speech 3, Interpersonal Communication", is a California native, born in Loma Linda, California way too many years ago to talk about.  I was brought up here in Barstow, graduating Barstow High School in the very early 1960's. Soon after graduation from high school I joined the United States Army, serving in Viet Nam for one tour of duty in the Signal Corps, then seeing the other parts of the world courtesy of Uncle Sam.

In 1970 I received my Bachelors Degree in Speech/Communication, and in 1972, my Masters Degree from California State University Los Angeles. I taught in my major at CSULA for a number of years before securing a position as a technician in Hollywood, retiring a few years ago when I moved back to Barstow to start teaching at Barstow College.

Every other summer I try to pursue my hobby of rock/mountain climbing by finding a new challenge to climb every time. Two summers ago while spending a few months in Kenya, East Africa working at an orphanage as a volunteer teacher, I climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro in the neighboring country of Tanzania.  "Kili" is the highest free standing mountain in the world and the trek and view from the "Roof of Africa" was well worth the seven days of extreme cold.

I now teach here at BCC and for the Barstow Unified School District at Barstow High and Middle schools. I hope you will find this course interesting and enlightening. We have some fascinating discussions.

Good Studying!

Ron Trotter
