Biography:
Hello everyone, my name is Melissa Maddox and I will be your instructor for this course. I would like to take this time to tell you a little bit about myself. First, I was born and raised in Barstow, Ca. and resided there for 23 years. I then became a resident of Louisiana, and have lived here for twelve years. I must say that the transition from the desert to the swamps was very interesting. I am married with two beautiful children, a 16 year old boy and a 7 year old girl. My future academic goals include continuing my education within the counseling realm and obtaining a Ph.D.
I began my venture in education with Barstow College: my first educational experience out of high school. Barstow College motivated me to continue my education until I completed my Master’s degree. I hope the experience that you have with this course and Barstow College will assist you in continuing your ventures in education.
I have been teaching at Barstow College as an online instructor for four years and thoroughly enjoy the online environment. This media is designed to work around the student’s schedule, thus providing them with a great deal of flexibility.
My teaching philosophy is simple: I believe we are all given the capability to learn limitless amounts of information…so why limit ourselves. My goal for this course is to provide each of you with a better understanding about the field of developmental psychology in order that you may apply what you learn to your personal and/or professional lives. I am very excited to assist each of you in your journey through this awesome and exciting field.
Lastly, online courses are very flexible; however, they do require a great deal of self-motivation, responsibility, and commitment from the student. Information presented during the online course is in a cram format. Throughout the duration of this course, your suggestions and/or recommendations for improvement or change, pertaining to this course, are greatly appreciated. I am here to assist you in learning about the field of Developmental Psychology. With that said, if you have any questions I will do my best to answer them or refer you to the appropriate person/site/location. I hope you enjoy this course as much as I enjoy teaching it!
Welcome to the course!
Melissa Maddox
