Meet Your Instructor: Mr. Hill

Howdy, folks! My name is Mike Hill and I have had
the pleasure of instructing with Barstow Community College's On-Line teaching
program for several years. I have taught at the high school level and enjoy
instructing on the college level. Early on in my college education, an "old
salt" of a history teacher told me that history was “the telling of the truth .” This statement stuck with me all of
these years because…history is the telling of the truth. Of course, Historians
have fun debating whose truth is right, whose is wrong and why! It is up to the
Historian to research historical sources, evaluate facts and present this
information to support their argument(s). I try to give my honest best when
completing any tasks and expect the same from my students.
I have an Associates of Science Degree in Technical Studies from Barstow
Community
College; a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Liberal Studies from Bakersfield State
University, Bakersfield, California; I have taken numerous military history,
leadership, tactics, strategy and national security studies courses during my
four years in the Army Reserve Officers Training Corps at San Bernardino State
University, San Bernardino, California; I have a Masters of Arts Degree in
American History (cum laude) from North Carolina Central University, Durham,
North Carolina; and I have a Masters of Arts Degree in American Military
History, emphasis in Civil War: Land Warfare, from the American Military
University, Manassas Park, Virginia. I am currently applying for admission into
a Doctorate Program in Educational Leadership at the University of Phoenix,
Arizona and am attempting to publish a manuscript
titled: Confederate Military Operations in North Carolina During the Civil War,
1861-1865. I am also working on a manuscript for a future book, to be titled:
Local Heroes, which will be about World War II.
I enjoy being with my family, carpentry, metal detecting and traveling. I currently work
full-time for the Department of Justice with the Federal Bureau of Prisons and
have traveled extensively with the Bureau to different duty stations around the
country.
Good luck and smooth sailing!
Mr. Hill
