Meet Your Instructor: Mark Cauble

Mark Cauble was born 6-9-48 in New York City and moved to California in 1954. He graduated from Whittier High School in 1966 and joined the USMC. Mr. Cauble served in South Vietnam as an infantryman and was wounded twice. He was awarded the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry, and his outfit, 2nd Battalion, 26th Marines, received the Presidential Unit Citation for Operation Hickory (May 16-28, 1967). He has written a book about Operation Hickory, which has been published by Heritage Books. The book is entitled “Into the DMZ” and is now available.

Mr. Cauble was honorably discharged in 1969 and started college at Rio Hondo Jr. College. Mark earned an AA, transferred to UCLA in 1971 and received his BA in history, with honors, in 1973. He did graduate work at CSULA and was granted a MA in history, with honors, in 1975. From 1975-1978 he did doctoral work in history at UCLA and UCI.

Mark Cauble began teaching while a graduate student in 1975 and was hired by Barstow College in 1979. His specialties are: Modern Europe, the Middle East, Russia, the United States, Cultural and Intellectual history, Military history, and the Native Americans.
