Lesson 1

I am quite sure we all have some notion as to what we think health is or isn't. We live day to day, making choices that reflect the good and the bad ways of living.

Readings

Read Chapter One and Lesson One; Your Invitation to Healthy Change and Changing for Life Power Point Presentations. (Instructor words in white, underlined in PowerPoint). To access the PowerPoint presentations you need to click the navigation button on the bottom of each lesson page entitled "PowerPoint." Complete QUAD 1.

Assignment 1 - Fifteen Points

All assignments utilize surveys and figures in included in your text (except the nutritional analysis), unless otherwise noted. You must always submit the results in the form (interactive box) provided to get credit.

Assignment 1: Wellness Inventory (pg. 28-35) or from Chapter 1 on the Profile Plus CD-ROM then complete and record the name and score for each area in a word document. Cut or Copy and then paste/submit your results in the form below.

** Important: All students must do their work in a word processor and save a copy of their work on their local computer. The college is not required to retrieve work that has been lost in the Internet and has not been saved by the student. Students must also copy and paste the page that appears after submitting a form and send it to your instructor at tpuryear@bcconline.com. The instructor maintains an online grade book and students will have one week after each grading period to resend any form assignments without penalty for any assignments that are missing from the grade book.

Discussion 1A and 1B - 10 Points

Introduction posting 1A:

Post a short introduction. Tell us: where you live (city and state are fine); why you took this class, and any other information you would like to share. Remember the introduction should be at least 7 sentences long.

Short Term Change 1B:

Based on the outcome of the Wellness Inventory, discuss with others what area or areas of your life you would like to try and change. Was this a beneficial activity? Could this help you make a lifestyle change? Why or why not, would you be successful with your change?

Lesson One Conclusion!!!

Students should have? read chapter one and two, read the power point presentation, completed Quiz 1, Assignment 1, and Discussion 1 (both parts). Students should understand the different components of health. Also, understand health behaviors, why they exist, and how to change them.
