Specific instructions for the essays are in the lessons.

Essays must be submitted through the embedded feedback forms in the lesson.  NO FILE ATTACHMENTS WILL BE ACCEPTED BECAUSE THEY CAN SPREAD VIRUSES.

Each essay is worth 100 points. Be sure to get your essays submitted on time.  A late essay will not receive over 65 points which is a D.

Each essay must be approximately 1200 words. To fulfill our articulation agreements with California universities, students must write at least 6000 words for this course.  Actually students will be writing more than that when the midterm examination, final examination, and discussion postings are counted.

English 1A, English Composition and Reading from Barstow Community College or a comparable college-level freshman writing class is the prerequisite for this course. Students must have passed with a grade of C or better.

It is assumed by the instructor (sometimes incorrectly) that  students registered for the course are proficient in composition and rules of standard written English. All compositions must follow MLA style guidelines.  When students use sources for essays, parenthetical citations in the text and works cited listed at the end are mandatory.  It is the student's responsibility to cite sources correctly.  Students can review the websites at the MLA link on the class homepage if they need to brush up on MLA style.
