- No student may submit more than three entries per
category.
- Submissions will not be returned. Students should
keep copies of entries.
- Entries can be no longer than 10 double-spaced pages.
- Research papers will not be accepted.
- Entries must be written in English.
- No teacher, instructor, or college student with a
Bachelor's degree may enter.
- Students must be currently registered in an area
school. Local home schooled students may enter.
- College students may have been registered in the
previous semester.
- All entries must be the original work of the writer

Originality
must be attested to by signatures of the author and a parent or teacher.
All entries
must be in ink, typed, or computer printed
The entry form
must be attached to the back of the submission.
Author’s name
should NOT appear on the submission, only on the attached
form.
Names,
addresses, and telephone numbers must be printed clearly.

Entries will be judged on:

Judging Process:
- Judges are local educators,
writers, and qualified community members with a bachelor’s degree or
higher.
- Judges read entries "blind." This
means they never know who the author is until winners are announced.
- All entries are read by two judges.
- Any ties are read by a third reader.
The Desert Heritage Writing Contest
Awards Ceremony will be held on April
21, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. in the Gym at Barstow
Community College.
Winners will be notified by mail.
All award entries will be listed in a
booklet which will be available at the Awards Ceremony.
Winning place entries (Third Place through Grand Prize) will be published
in the booklet.
