
How to Copy Files From the CD to Your Hard Disk
To Create a New Folder on Your Hard Disk
To save your work on your hard disk, follow the steps below to create a new folder in My Documents where you can then copy the files from the CD:
- At the Windows desktop, click the Start button on the Taskbar, point to Programs, and then click Windows Explorer to open the program and display the Windows Explorer.
- In Windows Explorer, click the down-pointing triangle at the right side of the Address list box to drop-down a list of options and click [C:] if it is not selected already.
- Scroll through the list of folders at the left side of your screen until you see My Documents, and click My Documents to display the list of files in the My Documents folder.
- Click File from the menu bar at the top of the window to drop down a list of commands.
- Point at the New command to display a submenu and click Folder (first item in the list) to display New Folder at the end of the list on the bottom, right side of the window. Hint: The name New Folder is highlighted and outlined ready for you to rename. If it isn't, then point at the New Folder and right-click to pop-up a quick list of commands. Then click Rename from the list of commands to be able to rename the folder.
- Type Excel Class Work to rename the highlighted name New Folder.
To Copy the Student CD to Your Hard Disk
Only follow these instructions if you created the new folder described above and are using your own personal computer to copy the folders from the CD to your hard disk. The Windows Explorer should still be displayed. If it isn't, do step 1 above before continuing.
- Insert the Excel CD from your book into the CD-ROM drive (wait a few seconds for it to load).
- In Windows Explorer, click the down-pointing triangle at the right side of the Address list box to drop-down a list of items, and click the drive where the Excel CD is located to display the list of student files.
- Click the Edit menu from the menu bar at the top of the window to drop down a list of commands, and then click Select All to highlight all the files listed on the CD.
- Click the Copy button from the Windows Explorer toolbar.
- Click the down-pointing triangle at the right side of the Address list box to drop-down the list, and click My Documents to display the list of files in My Documents.
- Double-click the Excel Class Work folder you created in My Documents to open it.
- Click the Paste button on the Windows Explorer toolbar.
- After the files finish copying to your Excel Class Work folder, close Windows Explorer by clicking the Close button
that is located in the upper right corner of Windows Explorer.
To return to the Home page where you can reselect the Current Week on which you are working, click the Home button below.
