About the Instructor

My name is Donna Rivera-Loudon. I strongly believe that community colleges do an excellent job of providing quality education to students.

I believe the online classroom is an excellent opportunity for the student who is disciplined and self-motivated. Such a learning environment allows students to schedule their education around their own personal schedules.

It is my goal to assist online students in a manner that will make their online experience a memorable one. Any questions or difficulties you may have with this class should be promptly e-mailed to me. I will make every effort to answer student questions in a prompt and efficient manner.

My Educational Background

I have personally earned two Associate Degrees from Barstow College. I then transferred to Park University, where I earned my Bachelors Degree primarily through on-line classes. I earned my Masters in Business Administration at Jones International University, which is a completely on-line program.

My Teaching Philosophy

I believe it is my responsibility to assist students in developing problem solving skills. This is especially important in business and management. I do not believe a student truly benefits from memorizing answers. Instead, I would like students to use the techniques they are learning to solve problems. For this reason a good portion of my student assignments are case studies where students are required to apply the knowledge they are gaining in life-like situations.

I believe that writing is one of the most important skills a student can develop. Many business leaders complain that potential employees lack the ability to communicate effectively when writing. I believe it is every college instructors' responsibility to help their students develop effective writing skills. Students who develop such writing skills early in their college career are able to be more successful throughout college and later in their professional careers. Effective writing involves more than proper spelling and grammar. An effective writer will able to communicate his or her ideas to their fullest potential. Well-developed written communication is more likely to be heard by business associates and peers. I assign case studies and essay questions because I believe they are excellent tools in the development of effective writing habits.
